B.L. Harbert secures $41.8M deal to build hangar at Maryland naval station

ConDig (31-Jan-19). Birmingham, Alabama-based B.L. Harbert International has bagged a $41.8 million contract to construct a hangar at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.

Under the deal, B.L. Harbert will build a 80,000 square foot hangar and associated facilities to support research, development, testing and evaluation of unmanned carrier-launched aerial surveillance systems to be located at the air station.

Work is expected to be completed 607 days after award of the construction contract, according to the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington.

The contract also contains five unexercised options, which if executed would lift the cumulative contract value to $44.3 million.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad, California-based RQ Construction Inc has netted a $41.4 million firm-fixed-price contract for the design and construction of a maintenance hangar at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington.

The facility will provide high-bay space for maintenance to the EA-18 Growler, maintenance shops and open bay warehouse space for aircraft equipment and administrative spaces.

Construction work on the project is expected to be completed by July 2021.
