DOT awards $75M infrastructure grant to Northern Kentucky

ConDig (27-AUg-18).  The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a $75 million infrastructure grant to Northern Kentucky that will primarily help fund upgrading highways around Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).

Under the grant, $67.4 million has been ring-fenced for improvements on I-71 and I-75 south of CVG to help alleviate congestion, along with an additional $7.1 million for several small upgrade projects at CVG.

“This $75 million investment in this key infrastructure in Northern Kentucky will increase economic development, improve the quality of life and help create jobs for the hard-working people of this region,” said DOT Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

The highway upgrade project includes construction of about 2 miles of northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes along I-71/I-75 north of the KY 536 interchange. The work will eliminate two existing at-grade railroad crossings and complete a new single-point urban interchange at US 25, and provide a railroad bridge overpass to provide a fully grade-separated crossing

The DOT also said that projects at CVG include rehabilitation of the apron at Concourse A, constructing a de-icing pad and facilities and improving the baggage handling system at Concourse A.

Last year, the DOT awarded $527.8 million in grants to revamp the infrastructure across 584 airports nationwide.
