Fluor and Balfour Beatty JV wins $625 million Texas highway upgrade contract

ConDig (04-May-17).  A Fluor Corp and Balfour Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. joint venture has secured a $625 million contract for the revamp of the Southern Gateway, along Interstate I-35E and US 67 in Dallas, Texas.

Irving, Texas-based Flour said the the design-build and capital maintenance deal, which was awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), is expected to start later this year and last four years.

The 11-mile project includes the reconstruction and widening of both general-purpose and non-tolled managed lanes in a bid to relieve congestion along I-35E.

Fluor said the project will also reduce the ongoing capital maintenance demands along the Southern Gateway, one of the country’s primary transportation corridors.

“Fluor is proud to lead the joint venture team that will oversee the design-build and capital maintenance of this project,” said Hans Dekker, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business division.

“Our team brings an integrated solutions approach to designing and building complex mega-projects and our long-standing relationship with Balfour Beatty solidifies our ability to deliver complex projects for Texas.”

Last month, Fluor won a bid-build contract from the TxDOT to expand the U.S. 287 highway in Ellis County, just south of Dallas and Fluor’s corporate headquarters in Irving.
