Hensel Phelps flies off with $64M aircraft hangar deal

ConDig (17-May-18).  General contractor and construction manager Hensel Phelps Construction has landed a $64 million contract to design and build an aircraft maintenance hangar with supporting facilities at Joint Region Marianas, Andersen Air Force Base, in Guam.

Under the deal, the Greeley, Colorado-based company will construct a hangar structure that will have a conventional shallow foundation with concrete walls and structural steel columns supporting a concrete roof on structural steel beams and trusses.

It will be constructed with features to meet Guam’s severe wind, seismic, and corrosive environmental conditions, according to the The Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

Hansel will build spaces for crew, equipment and administration. It will also fit the facility with building electrical and mechanical systems.

Work on the facility in Yigo, Guam, is slated to be completed by September 2020.

The deal also includes an option for furniture, fixtures, and equipment, which if exercised would increase the cumulative contract value to $65.6 million.

The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with three bids received.

In February, Hensel netted a $74.9 million deal to build a behavioral health and dental clinic addition for the US army at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Guam is an unincorporated and organized territory of the US in Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean.
