Skanska JV drives off with $301M bridge contract in Maryland

ConDig (11-Feb-20).  A joint venture led by Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has landed a $301 million deal to design and build a new bridge over the Potomac River in Maryland.

Under the deal with the Maryland Transportation Authority, the company and its joint venture partners Corman Kokosing Construction Company and McLean Contracting Company will replace an existing two-lane bridge that connects Newburg, Maryland, and Dahlgren, Virginia, with a four-lane structure.

In addition, the project will feature roadway realignment and construction of about 0.5 miles on either side of the new 1.9 mile-long bridge.

Once the new bridge and roadway construction is complete the existing bridge will be demolished and used to create artificial reefs in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, Skanska said.

Construction on the project will start in March this year and is slated for total completion in December 2024, with the new bridge expected to open by 2023.

Last month, Skanska secured a $48 million contract for a health and human services building in New Haven, Connecticut.

In November, Skanska signed an additional $42 million contract for the expansion of Portland airport.

In September, Skanska landed a $32 million deal to upgrade the University of Cincinnati College of Law in Cincinnati, in Ohio. It also said it had booked a $74 million deal to build residential apartments in Nashville, Tennessee.
