Skanska lands NYC health research facility and San Diego road upgrade contracts

ConDig (06-Dec-17). Developer and contractor Skanska has secured two construction contracts in the US for a total value of $134 million.

The company has driven off with a $94 million deal to build a new segment of the Interstate 5 North Coast Corridor in San Diego, California.

Under the first phase deal with the California Department of Transportation,the company will clear and grub, dredge, replenish beach sand, dredge material, enhance tidal channels and construct transitional wetland areas and a nesting site.

The contract is aiming to restore about 390 hectares of the San Elijo Lagoon and is part of a variety of improvements to the I-5 freeway North Coast Corridor.

Construction is slated to begin this month and is set for completion in early 2021.

Skanska also said that it had landed a $40 million contract to provide computational research facilities and office space for NYU Langone’s Department of Population Health in New York City.

Under the deal with NYU Langone Health, the company will provide construction management services and renovate about 8,100 square meters of office space across ten floors at 180 Madison Avenue.

Skanska will fit out the existing vacant floors with dry research facilities, conference rooms and offices, auditoriums, and other common areas. The project will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification.

Construction is ongoing and the project is expected to be finished in 2018.

Last month, Skanska was awarded a $61 million contract to build dormitories at Duke University, North Carolina.
