Walsh Construction lands $104.4M deal to build VA mental health unit in California

ConDig (17-Aug-18).  Chicago-based contractor Walsh Construction Co has secured a $104.4 million firm-fixed-price contract to build mental health inpatient and outpatient facilities at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center in California.

Under the deal with the US Army Corps of Engineers, construction work will be carried out in Long Beach, with completion slated for September 27, 2018.

The US Army Corps of Engineers said that bids for the project were submitted through the internet, with two received.

It comes as Walsh was recently selected by NASA to build a new Research Support Building at the agency’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.

The firm-fixed-price contract includes a base period that begins this month, followed by seven options that would extend the period of performance to June 9, 2020.

The company said the total potential value of the deal is about $32.7 million and will involve constructing a two-story, 64,000-square-foot building that will house about 164 employees. It was also include open office areas, private offices, conference rooms, collaborative engineering rooms and a cafeteria with supporting kitchen and dining spaces.
