ConDig (08-Jan-19).  Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has bagged a $128 million contract to construct an academic building at the Brookline High School in Massachusetts.

Under the deal, Skanska will build a 11,000-square-meter academic facility that will include classrooms; event space with dining and food service; a medical clinic; a library and spaces for general administration and collaboration. 

Skanska will add 6,500 square meters to the school’s existing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Wing that will feature biology and chemistry classrooms and labs; collaboration and maker spaces; a culinary arts kitchen and student restaurant with seating; an a 300-square-meter lobby.

The company also reported that it will carry out upgrades to all the school’s existing buildings, landscaping and streetscapes.

Work on the project kicked off in November and completion is slated for the third quarter of 2021. The project architect is Boston-based William Rawn Associates.

Last month, a joint venture led by Skanska secured a $169 million contract to upgrade the Chelsea Viaduct Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts.

In November, another joint venture led by Skanska bagged a 75 million contract to build four schools in Harrison, Ohio. The company also reported in November that operating income tumbled 49% in the third quarter to Swedish crowns (SEK) 2.4 billion compared with SEK 4.7 billion a year earlier, while order intake at the group’s construction division, which books the bulk of group sales, was 30.6 billion Swedish crowns ($3.40 billion) compared with 34.1 billion in the year-ago period.
