Con Dig (01-Oct-26) — Caterpillar plans to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina to expand manufacturing capacity for its growing compact construction-equipment business.
The investment includes plans for a new manufacturing facility in Sanford that will increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers. Caterpillar said the facility is expected to incorporate automation, digital production systems and integrated logistics capabilities.
Why it matters: The investment is both a major US manufacturing project and a signal of Caterpillar’s expectations for continued demand for compact equipment across construction and other customer markets.
