Anduril plans $3.7bn Maryland shipyard for submarine production
Anduril Industries plans to invest more than $3.7 billion in Arsenal-2, a new approximately 2 million-sq-ft shipyard at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point, Baltimore County.
The facility will manufacture critical components for the US Navy’s Virginia-class submarine program. The Navy has awarded Anduril a contract of up to $2.9 billion tied to production outcomes, taking the combined private investment and Navy commitment associated with the program to about $6.6 billion.
Maryland officials said the development is expected to create more than 3,100 permanent jobs and support more than 14,000 jobs directly and indirectly. Initial production is targeted for 2030.
Avio USA advances 900,000-sq-ft Virginia rocket-motor plant
Avio USA has broken ground on its first US solid rocket motor manufacturing facility in Hurt, Virginia. The approximately 900,000-sq-ft development is planned on a roughly 1,300-acre site and is intended to expand domestic rocket-motor production capacity.
HITT Contracting has received pre-construction work, with full construction packages expected to follow. Full-scale construction is targeted to begin by the end of 2026, with the factory scheduled for completion in 2028 and production expected in 2029.
Skanska adds $138m to US technology-facility contract
Skanska has signed an additional $138 million contract with an existing client for construction of a technology facility in the US.
The company has not disclosed the client or project location. Work began in April 2026 and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028. The award will be included in Skanska’s US order bookings for the third quarter.
UNC Health starts construction of 48-acre West Cary campus
UNC Health has begun construction of a new 48-acre medical campus in West Cary, North Carolina, as it expands capacity in one of the region’s fastest-growing areas.
The first phase includes a medical office building and parking deck scheduled to open in 2028. A community hospital is expected to follow in 2032, and the completed campus is projected to employ about 1,000 people.
Hollywood River Studios breaks ground in Illinois
Construction is underway on Hollywood River Studios in Wood River, Illinois, following a ceremonial groundbreaking attended by state and local officials.
The development at the former Envirotech Business Park is planned as a film and television production campus with multiple sound stages and additional production facilities. Published project values have varied by phase and scope; the development is expected to bring its first sound stage into operation in 2027.
Hut 8 pushes ahead with $10bn Louisiana data-center campus
Construction continues on Hut 8’s River Bend AI data-center campus in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, with the developer providing a fresh look at progress on the project.
Phase one represents up to $10 billion of data-center and compute infrastructure investment. Hut 8 lists 330 MW of utility capacity supporting 245 MW of commercialized IT capacity, with the wider site offering potential expansion beyond 1 GW. Around 1,000 temporary construction jobs are expected during the first phase.
