American Bridge Co lands $42.6M road revamp deal in US Virgin Islands

ConDig (18-Sept-17).  American Bridge Company has secured a $42.6 million contract to upgrade Veterans Drive (Route 30) in the US Virgin Islands.

Under the deal with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based company will rebuild and widen about 0.5 miles of Veterans Drive from west of Hospital Gade to Long Bay Road in the city of Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.

The work includes roadway excavation, embankment, aggregate base, asphalt pavement milling, hot asphalt concrete pavement, reinforced concrete pavement and concrete curb and guttering.

It will also feature other aspects such as drainage, utility adjustments and replacements, traffic signal and street lighting replacements, and other miscellaneous work.

The US Virgin Islands of St. Thomas and St. John were devastated by hurricane Irma last week, which was a Category 5 storm when the eyewall passed over the islands.

American Bridge was part of the Tappan Zee Constructors LLC (TZC) team that won the $4 billion, four year deal to revamp the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York.

The 3.1 mile bridge, which was opened last month, replaced its 61-year-old steel truss counterpart, built at one of the widest points of the Hudson River, connecting the New York counties of Rockland and Westchester.
