Beard Construction pulls away with $13M rail upgrade in Fort Polk

ConDig (05-Oct-17).  Industrial civil contractor Beard Construction Group LLC has secured a $13 million contract to upgrade railroad tracks in Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Under the deal with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Houston, Texas-based company will repair failing and failed railroad tracks along a 13.7 mile stretch of railroad.

The project includes repairs to the subbase on selected sections of the track, upgrades to ties and switch ties over the entire track system and repairs to the surface and alignment on the entire track system. It will also feature repairs to the gauge and profile, upgrades to rail joints, repairs to drainage and revamping culverts by replacement.

The rail system in Fort Polk is used by the US Army’s Brigade Combat Team.

Work is slated for completion by August 23 next year.

The Defense Department reported that bids were received through the Internet with one received.
