ConDig (13-Apr-17).  Granite Construction Inc has booked a $59 million demolition sub-contract at the Midfield Satellite Concourse North project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California.

The sub-contract, which was awarded by a Turner and PCL joint venture, will involve demolition of over 80,000 cubic yards of existing portland cement concrete and asphalt surfaces and demolition of over 13,000 feet of existing utilities.

It will also feature 350,000 cubic yards of mass grading, structural excavation and backfill and installation of over 28,000 feet of new domestic and fire water, storm drain, sanitary sewer, and natural gas utilities.

The approximately $1.6 billion Midfield Satellite Concourse project will expand LAX’s capacity to serve international travelers in and out of the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Construction is currently underway with Granite’s portion of the work expected to be complete by December 2019.

It comes as Granite also announced that it has secured a $22 million contract with the California Department of Transportation for the revamp of State Route 14 in Indian Wells.

Under the deal, Granite will rebuild four miles of two-lane conventional highway to a four-lane expressway, which will provide access to the Eastern Sierra Mountain range.

Work includes 170 acres of clearing, 600,000 cubic yards of excavation, creation of 300 linear feet of double ten feet by twelve feet reinforced box culvert and 6,100 linear feet of storm drain.

Work is slated to start in second quarter of this year and expected to be complete by second-quarter 2018.
