Granite touches down with $23M runway upgrade deal at San Diego airport

ConDig (20-Sept-17).  Civil contractor and construction materials producer Granite Construction Inc. has landed a $23 million contract to revamp the runway at San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

Under the deal, Watsonville, California-based Granite will rehabilitate Runway 9-27 and Cross Taxiways B1, B4-B7 and C3.

This will include milling and replacing about 2.5 million square feet of asphalt concrete pavement, reconstruction of a new taxiway, upgrading of lighting and signage, and new striping and marking.

Work is slated to start in October and is expected to finish in September 2018.

Granite said the contract will be included in its third quarter 2017 backlog.

Last month,  a subsidiary of Granite bagged a $21 million contract to replace and widen the Van Buren Street Bridge in Chicago, Illinois.
