Idaho bags $90M infrastructure grant from the DOT

ConDig (31-Aug-18).  Idaho has secured a $90 million infrastructure investment grant from the Department of Transportation (DOT) for the I-84 highway widening project.

Under the project, the I-84 highway will be expanded to three lanes in each direction from Franklin Boulevard to Karcher Interchange and will add auxiliary lanes between Franklin Boulevard and Northside Boulevard ramps. It will also replace the Northside Interchange, replace and widen the Karcher Road overpass and replace and widen a canal structure at Mason Creek.

Another feature of the scheme will see the replacement and expansion of two interstate bridges that cross over the Union Pacific Railroad and the East Lateral Canal.

Construction on the project will begin in October and is expected to be completed in 2020.

“The Department is proud to help Idaho invest in better transportation,” said deputy federal highway administrator Brandye L. Hendrickson.

“This INFRA [Infrastructure for Rebuilding America] grant will improve safety, enhance mobility, and bolster economic growth along Idaho’s major freight corridor.”

Earlier this week, the DOT issued a $75 million infrastructure grant to Northern Kentucky that will primarily help fund upgrading highways around Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).
