OSHA fines Connecticut contractor over fall hazards

ConDig (25-Sept-18).  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined a Connecticut-based contractor $146,554 for exposing workers to fall hazards.

The agency said inspectors observed employees from L.L.E. Construction LLC installing shingles and a skylight without fall protection.

The company was cited for failing to provide fall protection, train employees to recognize fall hazards and properly anchor fall protection equipment. It was also cited for exposing employees to falls from ladders, failing to provide eye protection and conduct regular inspections of worksite, materials and equipment.

OSHA cited the company for fall and eye protection hazards in 2010, 2012, and 2013.

L.L.E. Construction LLC has 15 business days to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Earlier this month, OSHA fined five construction companies a total of $86,658 following a pedestrian bridge collapse in Florida in March that resulted in the death of one employee and serious injuries to five others.
