Skanska JV bags $625M Rhode Island highway contract

ConDig (07-Oct–24) Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has driven off with a $625 million design-build contract to revamp the I-95 highway in Rhode Island.

Under the project with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), the company and joint venture partners McCourt Construction and AETNA Bridge Company will remove 15 bridges from the state’s backlog of poor condition structures along I-95 and Route 10 between Providence and Warwick.

Construction started in August of 2024 and is expected to be substantially complete by August of 2030.

“We’re incredibly excited to be a part of this complex design-build mega project for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation,” said Paul Pedini, senior vice president for Skanska USA Civil’s New England region.

“The project will revitalize key components of the roadway’s infrastructure, aid in alleviating traffic congestion, and enhance the safety of one of Rhode Island’s busiest corridors.”

Last week, Skanska announced it had secured two data center deals totaling $321 million.
