Sterling bags $20.3M bridge upgrade deal in San Francisco

ConDig (31-Mar-20).  A subsidiary of Texas-based civil contractor Sterling Construction Co has landed a $20.3 million contract to revamp a bridge along a stretch of California State Highway 101 in San Francisco.

Under the deal with the California Department of Transportation, Myers & Sons Construction LLC will replace bridge decks, concrete barriers and railings. It will also install carbon fiber wrap around the existing bridge columns at the Alemany Circle Undercrossing.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

“The Alemany Circle Undercrossing is a bridge along a busy stretch of California State Highway SR 101 that is beginning to show significant signs of deterioration. Our Myers operation specializes in bridge restoration and, once completed, their work on this project will greatly improve the safety, quality, and comfort of the ride for motorists in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco,” said Joe Cutillo, Sterling’s chief executive officer.

In November, a subsidiary of Sterling Construction landed a $22 million deal to revamp and expand a roadway in San Antonio, Texas.

In August, Sterling announced that it was set to acquire Austell, Georgia-based specialty contractor Plateau Excavation, Inc in a deal worth $400 million.
