ConDig (29-Dec-25). Civil, building and specialty construction company Tutor Perini Corp. has been awarded a design change order worth about $53 million for the City Center Guideway and Stations Project in Honolulu, positioning the contractor for potential additional work as the project moves forward.

The Los Angeles–based contractor said the change order covers the design of a rail extension that would push the project’s current western terminus from Kaka‘ako toward Ala Moana. The scope includes design work for the guideway alignment as well as two new stations along the extension.

Tutor Perini said the change order is a key step in advancing the next phase of Honolulu’s rail transit system. If the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation secures additional funding and proceeds with construction of the extension, the company expects the total contract value for the project to increase significantly as further construction work is awarded.

Tutor Perini is currently involved in delivering the City Center Guideway and Stations Project, a central segment of Honolulu’s long-running rail program aimed at improving east–west connectivity across the city.

The company said the design award strengthens its position on the project as the city works toward extending the system to the Ala Moana area, one of Honolulu’s busiest commercial and transit hubs.
