Webber lands $360M worth of Texas highway upgrade projects

ConDig (06-Spet-18).  General contractor Webber, LCC has driven off with nearly $360 million worth of highway revamp projects in Texas, which has prompted the company to seek additional staff.

The Houston-based company said the contracts with the Texas Department of Transportation include an expansion of existing roads for IH 10 in Houston, IH 35 in Austin and FM 156 in Fort Worth.

The largest of the projects was a $279 million deal to to upgrade a 10.2-mile stretch of the IH 10 from 0.85 miles west of FM 3538 to east of the Brazos River.

The scheme will feature widening the roadway from two lanes in each direction to three lanes including a complete rebuild of existing mainlanes and the frontage roads. It will also include replacing 955 linear foot bridges over the Brazos River.

Construction is set to start in December next year and slated to reach substantial completion in the summer 2023.

“We are excited to have won a major project in each of our regions – South Texas, Central Texas and North Texas – which will keep our crews busy and allow us to add additional talent in the coming months,” said Josh Goyne, president of Webber Heavy Civil.

Webber said it was the low bidder for the FM 156 project that consists of a five-mile work zone from 0.741-mile north of Posey Road to Comal County Line in Austin.

The project was bid at $31.7 million and includes removing and replacing the existing bridge at Posey Road, with construction scheduled to begin January 2019 and substantial completion expected in spring 2021.

Webber also reported that it won a $48 million deal to revamp 3.8-miles from US 81/US 287 to Watauga Road/McLeroy Boulevard north of Fort Worth. The project is set to start in March next year and scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022.
