GlobalFoundries plans up to $21bn New York semiconductor expansion

GlobalFoundries has been selected to operate two proposed semiconductor fabrication plants at its Malta, New York, campus under a US-Japan initiative providing up to $21 billion in funding.

An initial investment of approximately $10 billion would accelerate a 300mm fabrication plant expected online in 2029, with groundbreaking anticipated later in 2026. A further roughly $10 billion could support a second facility. The company estimates the program could support around 27,000 construction and related ecosystem jobs.

The initiative would generate a multiyear pipeline of specialist cleanroom, utilities and semiconductor infrastructure work in upstate New York.
