AEP outlines $4bn Wyoming fuel-cell project to power Google

American Electric Power plans to invest approximately $4 billion in a 702 MW fuel-cell generation project near Cheyenne, Wyoming, to supply Google under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The project, being developed by majority AEP-owned Cheyenne Fuel Cell, is expected to start construction in 2026 and become fully operational by the end of 2028. Bloom Energy will provide the fuel-cell technology.

The investment demonstrates how rising data-center power demand is driving dedicated energy construction alongside new computing facilities.
