ConDig (20-Apr-17). Candler, North Carolina-based APAC-Atlantic Inc has secured a $24.9 million contract to upgrade a stretch of the Foothills Parkway in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee.
Under the deal with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the company will oversee the rehabilitation and final surfacing of about 14.8 miles of the Foothills Parkway from the Wears Valley Interchange to the Walland Interchange, including 0.7 miles of interchange ramps, parking areas, and scenic overlooks.
The project will involve full-depth pavement reclamation with cement stabilization of the existing aggregate surface, bridge joint and concrete repairs. It will also feature bridge deck overlays, installation of stone masonry guardwall and steel-backed timber guardrail, along with drainage improvements.
Work is scheduled to be completed towards the end of December next year.
