ConDig (17-May-17). A joint venture of Archer Western and The de Moya Group has pocketed a $800 million public-private partnership deal to revamp the I-395 in Miami and construct a landmark bridge.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) said that the Western-de Moya team narrowly beat Fluor-Astaldi-MCM by half a point during the bidding the process. Other bidders included Miami Community Builders and Kiewit Granite Constructors.
The I-395 reconstruction project is expected to start by the end of the year and take about 4 years to complete.
A key part of the contract is to build a landmark bridge, which will span 1,025 feet over NE 2 Avenue and State Road (SR) 5/Biscayne Boulevard, with six arches that will hold the I-395.
The scheme will also include a rebuild of the 836/I-95 interchange and reconstruction of 836 between I-95 and Northwest 17th Avenue.
The project aims to alleviate traffic problems on I-395 and connect the Overtown community with the Biscayne Boulevard and downtown neighborhoods.
