Skanska inks additional contract for $240M engineering facility

ConDig (10-06–25)  Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has signed a supplemental contract with Virginia Tech to build a College of Engineering.

Under the deal, the company will knockdown Virginia Tech’s 15,400 square meter Randolph Hall and renovate a portion of the existing Hancock Hall. This will tie into the construction of one of the largest buildings on the Blacksburg campus; the forthcoming five-story, 28,500 square meter Mitchell Hall engineering building.

The building will house five departments: aerospace and ocean engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and engineering education.

The project also includes building around one of the largest university-owned wind tunnels in the country, and creating high-performing classrooms, instructional laboratories, research laboratories and collaboration spaces.

Construction started in the spring following the demolition of Randolph Hall. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall 2028.

Last month, Skanska secured a $164 million contract to build a data center project in the Western US.
