Skanska lands $51.4M Virginia Tech deal

ConDig (20-May–24) Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has come top of the class to land a $51.4 million deal to construct a department building at Virginia Tech’s new College of Engineering.

Under the deal, the contractor will build a facility that will offer more than 70% gross square metres than the previous structure, housing multiple departments of the College of Engineering.

The project involves the demolition of the existing Randolph Hall and the construction of the new Mitchell Hall, which will span more than 26,500m².

Mitchell Hall is expected to become the largest building on the Blacksburg campus of Virginia Tech. The construction plan also includes working around the existing stability wind tunnel.

Construction is slated to kick off this year, along with Randolph Hall’s demolition. Completion is schedule to take place by early 2028.

Earlier this month, Skanska has trousered a $238 million deal to build a data center in Georgia.

Last month, Skanska secured a $94 million deal to construct a manufacturing facility in the Northeast.

Earlier in April, Skanska nabbed an additional $166 million deal to build a hospital in Lakeland, Florida.
