Skanska sails away with $50M bridge salvage deal

ConDig (11-Jun–24) Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has landed a $50 million deal for the recovery and salvage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

Under the deal with the Maryland Transportation Authority, the project includes the debris removal, disposal, and clean-up at spans 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22 of the bridge.

Work kicked off in April and completion is slated for July.

The bridge was severely damaged after a cargo ship crashed into it on March 26, killing six construction workers and impacting the global supply chain.

The channel that was affected allows access to the Port of Baltimore, but was fully cleared earlier this week following nearly 11 weeks of cleanup.

Last month, Skanska has bagged a $90 million contract to build a data center in Georgia.
