Skanska to build $91M science and technology center in Texas

ConDig (27-Jan–25)  Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has landed a $91 million contract to build a meat science and technology center in College Station, Texas.

Under the deal with the Texas A&M University System, the contract will oversee the construction of a 7,000-square meter facility that will provide AgriLife, a research and educational agency within the Texas A&M University System, with modern processing capabilities.

It will feature an auditorium, laboratories, training classrooms, seminar spaces, and offices designed for graduate students and faculty.

This facility will support the next generation of food safety and nutritional quality research in meat science, according to Skanska.

Work is scheduled to begin in December and is expected to reach completion in January of 2028.

It comes as Skanska also announced that it had secured a $220 million contract to revamp and paint the Commodore Barry Bridge in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The project with the Delaware River Port Authority (DPRA) involves rehabilitating and painting the Commodore Barry Bridge, including blast cleaning and repainting the cantilever truss, steel barriers, and overhead gantries.

The truss members will be strengthened and work also includes repairs on several parts of the bridge. Additionally protective coating will be applied and 4,300 linear meters of electrical conduit and wiring will be replaced, as well as the existing movable barrier and machine, that configures the number of lanes on the road in each direction.

Work kicked off in December last year and is slated to reach completion in February 2028.

Earlier this month, Skanska bagged a $62 million contract to expand and upgrade a lab space in Raleigh, North Carolina.
