ConDig (20-Mar–24). A subsidiary of civil, building and specialty construction company Tutor Perini is reportedly in pole position for a $136 million contract to replace and upgrade a bridge and highway in Illinois.
Tutor Perini said that Lunda Construction Company was recently identified by the Illinois Department of Transportation as the apparent low bidder for the project that is located on I-64, east of US‑1 near Grayville, Illinois.
The project crosses the Wabash River, which divides the roadway jurisdiction between White County, Illinois, west of the river, and Posey County, Indiana, east of the river.
The scheme involves the replacement of the existing dual bridges over the Wabash River, as well as roadway improvements to connect the existing I-64 roadway to the new bridge structures.
Contract award is expected in the second quarter of 2024 and work is slated for the third quarter, with substantial completion anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2029.
