Tutor Perini subsidiary snags two substation contracts worth about $90M

ConDig (31-Oct-22) A subsidiary of civil, building and specialty construction company Tutor Perini has landed two substation contracts worth about $90 million.

Under a design-build contract with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Five Star Electric will construct a two-story substation building at JFK International Airport.

The project includes furnishing and installing 27kV switchgear, 15kV switchgear, medium-voltage cables, low-voltage power distribution equipment, security, lighting, fire alarm, and other electrical systems.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2024.

Five Star has also been selected as a subcontractor to Yonkers Contracting for the electrical component of a project to construct a two-story substation building in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The scheme will start in the fourth quarter of this year and completion is earmarked for the summer of 2026.

In May, Tutor Perini bagged a $83.7 million contract to revamp a naval base in Guam.

In February, a Tutor subsidiary secured a $267 million contract to build a tunnel for the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre gas pipeline project in Canada.
