Gilbane Federal bags $133M deal to build two military bases in South Korea

ConDig (21-Aug-17).  The federal division of integrated construction and facility management services group Gilbane Federal has won a $133.4 million fixed-price contract to build two bases for the U.S. Army in South Korea.

The facilities, the U.S. Forces Korea Operations Center and Phase III Facility, will be built at U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys.

The Defense Department said the project in South Korea is expected to be completed in May 2 2020.

The Army Corps of Engineers received seven offers for the deal via the internet.

Camp Humphreys houses the Army’s most active overseas airfield and one of the largest construction and transformation projects in Department of Defense history.

It comes as Concord, California-based Gilbane has also secured a $24.9 million fixed-price deal to carry out remedial action and clean up soil and groundwater for a variety of contaminants at the former naval yard in Hunters Point, San Francisco.

Under the deal with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the company will meet the Parcel E remedial action objectives for non-aqueous phase liquid, who are liquid solution contaminants that do not dissolve in or easily mix with water, for Installation Restoration Site 03.

Work on the project is expected to be completed by August 2020.

The Defense Department said it was expected that future task orders will be required in order to complete all remedial actions relating to Parcel E.

The shipyard, which is a superfund site, is being redeveloped to become parks, offices and condos. For decades the Navy ran a Radiological Defense Lab where officials conducted radiation experiments on animals and decontaminated warships exposed to atomic weapons tests.
