ConDig (17-Aug-17). A subsidiary of Granite Construction Inc has snagged a $21 million contract to replace and widen the Van Buren Street Bridge in Chicago, Illinois.
Under the deal with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Kenny Construction Co will rebuild the Van Buren Street Bridge over Interstate 90/94 and build a retaining wall at the northwest quadrant of the Jane Byrne Interchange.
It will also revamp the southeast corner of Elysian Field and relocate the existing Greektown monument from Quincy Street to the project site.
Work is set to start this month and be slated to finish by September 2019.
The Van Buren Street Bridge, designed by William Donald Scherzer, is a bascule bridge that spans the Chicago River in downtown Chicago.
Watsonville, California-based Granite recently announced a $318 million contract for the second phase of the Kosciuszko Bridge replacement project in New York City.
Earlier this month, Granite also reported net income of $14.1 million for the quarter ended June 30 this year compared with net income of $14.2 million in the same period last year, while revenue rose to $762.9 million compared with $604.6 million a year earlier.
