ConDig (15-Jun17). The U.S. Army has selected nine companies for a $249 million contract to design and build healthcare facilities for the Army Medical Command.
Under the three-year deal, the companies will repair and build medical treatment facilities and medical research laboratories.
Work will be carried out inside both permanent and temporary facilities including medical centers, community hospitals, medical clinics, dental treatment facilities and veterinary treatment facilities.
The Army Corps of Engineers said the firm-fixed-price contract will run through June 13 2020.
It added that it received 18 bids for the two-phase construction projects through the internet and will determine the amount of funds and performance locations with each order.
The companies selected are: United Excel; ABM Government Services; J&J Worldwide Services; Barlovento; DMCA; Global Engineering and Construction; The Robins and Morton Group; Kirlin Builders and Walsh Construction.
The Army Corps of Engineers also reported that as the facilities will typically be in full operation, the contractors will be required to minimize interference with the daily operation of the facilities and will be required to implement infection control processes and comply with Joint Commission requirements for construction work in occupied medical facilities.
