Skanska JV secures $45M school renovation deal in Ohio

ConDig (29-Mar-19).  A joint venture led by Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has bagged a $45 million deal to build and renovate schools in Ohio.

Under the deal with Little Miami Local Schools, the join venture, which included Megen Construction, will build a 9,500 square meter pre-kindergarten to first grade school. It also includes additions to the intermediate school.

The construction project will also feature additions and renovations to the junior high school, the high school and an elementary school.

Construction work is slated to start in May this year, with completion earmarked for the third quarter of 2021.

Skanska also said it had signed a contract with Sound Transit to complete enabling work for the Lynnwood Link L300 light rail expansion project in Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace, Washington, for $57 million.

The company will provide services as demolition, temporary sediment and erosion control, advanced utility relocations, temporary parking construction and grading and earthwork for access on the about 6-kilometre project. This enabling work precedes construction of the planned light rail extension.

Construction work on the project started in March 2019 and is scheduled for completion in March 2020.

Skanska announced earlier this month that it had landed a $48 million contract to build a manufacturing facility in the western region of the US.

Last month, landed a $96 million contract to widen State Route 60 in Riverside, California.

In January, Skanska announced that it had secured three contracts worth a total of $178 million to new build school buildings across the US.

The latest deals come on the heels of Skanska’s $128 million contract signed this week to construct an academic building at the Brookline High School in Massachusett

A joint venture led by Skanska secured a $169 million contract in December to upgrade the Chelsea Viaduct Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts.

In November, another joint venture led by Skanska bagged a 75 million contract to build four schools in Harrison, Ohio. The company also reported in November that operating income tumbled 49% in the third quarter to Swedish crowns (SEK) 2.4 billion compared with SEK 4.7 billion a year earlier, while order intake at the group’s construction division, which books the bulk of group sales, was 30.6 billion Swedish crowns ($3.40 billion) compared with 34.1 billion in the year-ago period.
