Skanska lands $1.4BN bridge replacement project in Seattle

ConDig (26-Mar–24) Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has bagged a $1.4 billion deal to replace the Portage Bay Bridge in Seattle, Washington.

Under the deal with the Washington State Department of Transportation, the company will oversee a project that will replace the existing Portage Bay Bridge to meet current seismic resiliency standards and create a lidded segment at East Roanoke Street.

The contract includes revamping roadways, dedicated carpool and public transit lanes and the construction of a landscaped open space lid over the highway.

The company said the scheme will create a new multimodal connection via the extension of the regional shared-use path that makes it possible to bike or walk across Portage Bay to the new Roanoke Lid.

Construction work is schedule to start in August, with anticipated completion in 2031.

Last month, Skanska signed a $94 million additional contract to expand and revamp a University in Ohio.

In February, Skanska secured a $87 million contract to build a data center in Arizona.

Earlier in that month, Skanska landed a $113 million contract to build jet fuel transmission systems at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
