Skanska lands $189M patient bed tower contract at North Carolina hospital

ConDig (05-Jul-18).  Developer and contractor Skanska has bagged a $189 million deal to build a 13 story patient tower at Duke University Healthcare’s main campus in Durham, North Carolina.

Under the deal with Duke University Health System, the company will construct the 46,500-gross-square-meter tower that will feature 350 patient rooms, including adult and pediatric Medical-Surgical and intensive care unit rooms, bone marrow transplant and isolation rooms, and two labs.

Skanska said groundbreaking took place in September last year and the construction project is expected to be completed during the fall 2021.

It comes as Skanska announced earlier this week that it had secured a $74 million additional contract for a mixed-use construction project in Nashville.

Last month, Skanska secured a $188 million contract to build an acute care hospital in Hollywood, California.

Under the deal with CHA Hollywood Medical Center, L.P., Skanska will build a 16,350 square meter, five-story building and will replace the existing emergency department and kitchen.
