Skanska lands $67M New York substation deal

ConDig (02-Sept-25)  Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has bagged a $67 million contract for a substation on Governors Island in New York.

Under the deal with the Trust for Governors Island, the contractor will oversee the pre-construction and construction services for a new 27kV enclosed substation.

Skanska said the substation will serve several new tenant developments including a new public-school facility opening in September 2027, as well as the New York Climate Exchange, a planned 37,000 square meter research and education consortium.

The project will break ground this summer and targeted completion is expected in 2027.

Earlier this month, Skanska secured a $69 million contract to build a health sciences building in Durham, North Carolina.

Skanska also announced earlier this month that it had been awarded a $249 million contract by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to deliver a main cable dehumidification project on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in New York.

In June, Skanska secured an additional contract worth $250 million to upgrade Logan Airport’s Terminal E in Boston.
