ConDig (15-Sept-25) Swedish developer and contractor Skanska has landed an additional $116 million contract with the University of Virginia to advance construction of the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology at Fontaine Research Park in Charlottesville.
The five-story, 354,000-square-foot facility will serve as the centerpiece of UVA’s translational research program, the first of its kind in Virginia. Designed to accelerate collaboration between academic researchers and private-sector biotechnology firms, the building will feature modular lab and support space, expanded research facilities, and core laboratories to accommodate 100–150 scientists and industry partners.
Construction of the Manning Institute began in December 2023 and is slated for completion in late 2027.
Earlier this month, Skanska secured a $67 million contract for a substation on Governors Island in New York.
Skanska also announced earlier this month that it had been awarded a $249 million contract by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to deliver a main cable dehumidification project on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in New York.
In June, Skanska secured an additional contract worth $250 million to upgrade Logan Airport’s Terminal E in Boston.
